Pokemon Go Guide: How to Catch Ditto

by Kyle Hanson

It has finally happened. After months of waiting, Ditto has officially been added to Pokemon Go. This is the very first new Pokemon to be added to the game after release, and of course he can’t just be caught like a normal Pokemon. Instead Ditto does what his species does best, he mimics other characters and hides in plain sight. Players are frantically trying to figure out how to catch Ditto in Pokemon Go, so we’re gonna share all the info that’s available right now. Check back for updates as the situation develops.

The current trend is for Ditto to appear as either Zubat, Pidgey, or Rattata (many are giving conflicting reports, so he is likely appearing as any Pokemon). This isn’t a definite, though it has been very common for players who have actually caught Ditto in the wild. If you still have a working scanner, at this time the Ditto will appear as whatever species he is mimicking, making it tough to specifically track him down.

Instead you pretty much need to catch everything and anything that you can, focusing on Zubat, Pidgey, and Rattata, as they seem to be the most common. Once you catch them you should immediately know if you got a Ditto, as the word “Oh?” will appear and the Pokemon will transform into Ditto, adding him to your Pokedex and into your inventory.

And that’s it for how to catch Ditto in Pokemon Go at the moment. Hopefully we learn more, but right now things are really up in the air. There is already debate about whether you can only catch one per account or not, though most are saying you can catch more. If you have any info to share, be sure to do so in the comments below and we’ll keep this article up to date.
